TCA Awards Honor 'Veep' & 'True Detective,' Says A Final Goodbye To 'Breaking Bad'

TCA Awards Honors 'True Detective' Says A Final Goodbye To 'Breaking Bad'

On Saturday, July 19, Terry Crews hosted the non-televised TCA Awards alongside Miss Piggy. HBO won big through "Veep" and "True Detective," and an award for "Breaking Bad" meant the show got its final goodbye (unless -- as Bryan Cranston put it in his acceptance speech-- "you create the category of newly departed show").

"Veep's" Armando Ianucci accepted the Best Comedy award for "Veep." "'Veep' is written by British writers, and I was very nervous about the idea of coming over and having a go at your political system," he said. "But politicians in Washington took us in and were very generous with their time and with their offers of help. And we repaid that by portraying them as the shallow suck-ups that they actually are."

Receiving the award for Individual Achievement in Comedy for her work on the show, Julia Louis-Dreyfus thanked the critics and recognized the general grooviness of winning in a co-ed category. "To be in a co-ed group -- it's sort of like having that co-ed bathroom in your dorms," she said. "It's like, at first it's shocking, and then you get used to it."

Matthew McConaughey also echoed pride over his co-ed category, when accepting the award for Individual Achievement in Drama. "The category I'm in here tonight is a little bit specific and different," he said. "This is actor, male and female -- not gender-specific. … The performances of the other performers did an honorable job for our craft for the representation of humanity."
