Why The Case Of The NYPD Officer Who Put A Man In A Chokehold Is 'Indefensible'

Controversy hit the New York Police Department last week after the death of New York "gentle giant" Eric Garner, who can be seen in several videos struggling as police officers keep him in a chokehold.

Garner was confronted by NYPD officers, who said he had been selling untaxed cigarettes, last Thursday. After officers put him in a chokehold and wrestled him to the ground, Garner shouted "I can't breathe, I can't breathe!" before eventually going quiet.

Kami Chavis Simmons, a law professor at Wake Forest University, joined HuffPost Live on Monday to discuss the case, saying she thinks the actions of the NYPD are "indefensible."
