Transgender teen Jordan K. recalled the experience of coming out as transgender while still in elementary school in an interview with HuffPost Live.
"When I was first coming out in elementary school, I had a lot of hate towards me," Jordan recalled. "I didn’t want to come out because I [was] afraid I’d get bullied even more."
Fortunately, Jordan's parents made sure his birth certificate reflected his gender confirmation as soon as possible, which has helped him to navigate school as his true gender.
"Right after I transitioned at the age 11, the first thing on my family’s agenda to change for me was my birth certificate," Jordan said. "Having a birth certificate change was so easy and so simple, for me at least ... With that help, it’s easier."
