Bill Maher is taking the rest of August off, but he left all of us here on the internet with something to think about in his absence: "Do you think social media made us bigger assholes, or we were bigger assholes and it just exposed us as being that?"
Maher posed the question to Nerdist Industries CEO, and host of @Midnight on Comedy Central, Chris Hardwick, after lamenting the PC culture of the internet where people "lay in wait" to attack someone for saying something they don't agree with.
Hardwick made the case for seeking "understanding first" and attempting to reach common ground rather than fight. Probably a tall order for the internet, but it's worth a try.
Watch the clip above and let us know if you think Maher is reasonably frustrated with the combative nature of internet debate and what you think can be done about it.
