Florida Republican Says She Wants To Spank Rick Scott With A Flip-Flop

GOP Challenger Wants To Spank Rick Scott With A Flip-Flop

Incumbent Gov. Rick Scott is expected to sail through the Florida Republican gubernatorial primary in August, but he might want to sleep with one eye open. A fellow party member has her eye on Tallahassee and her grip on a shoe meant for Scott.

At a campaign forum in Fort Lauderdale Wednesday, Elizabeth Cuevas-Neunder -- one of a few Republicans hoping to steal the party's nomination from Scott -- brandished a flip-flop in the air and said she wants to "discipline" the governor with it.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is used in our Hispanic community as a method of discipline to children,” Cuevas-Neunder, who was born in Puerto Rico, told an audience of roughly 200 people, according to the Palm Beach Post.

“It is called la chancleta. In English it’s called a flip-flop. At the present time we have two flip-flops running for governor. And I want to use this one to discipline them because they deserve the discipline," she said, apparently referring to Scott and Democratic frontrunner Charlie Crist.

The idea of smacking Scott with a flip-flop is apparently a consistent message from Cuevas-Neunder. As first reported by Miami New Times, her campaign and personal Facebook pages host several references to it:

Scott, a former health care executive who was elected in 2010, has suffered some of the lowest approval ratings of any sitting governor in America. But for Cuevas-Neunder, disapproval hasn't translated to support: Her campaign Facebook page has earned just 506 likes.
