'The View' Tries To Tamp Down All The Wild Speculation About New Co-Hosts

'The View' Responds To New Co-Host Rumors

The speculation about new "The View" co-hosts has gotten so crazy that the show had to tell the Daily Beast on Friday that it hasn't hired anyone yet.

ABC spokesperson Lauri Hogan confirmed that candidates did screen tests with Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O'Donnell on Thursday, but said, "No decisions have been made and there is nothing to announce at this time."

With the next season of "The View" set to begin next month, rumors about replacements for Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy have been intense. "The View" has tried out numerous guest co-hosts in recent months, and many names have been bandied about by observers. Screen tests this week — reportedly with these nine women — have sent the rumor mill into overdrive.

The Daily Mail even claimed that the show has reportedly hired Nicolle Wallace, former White House communications director under President George W. Bush, and October Gonzalez, wife of Atlanta Falcons football player Tony Gonzalez.

The report has gotten no confirmation from the show or "View" co-hosts. Rosie O'Donnell did tweet Friday:

While there was not much in the way of new co-host news this week, it was announced that Rachel Maddow's executive producer Bill Wolff will be taking over "The View."
