'The Giver' Star Has A Big Surprise For This Family

There's just one first time for everything -- but, thankfully, life can be filled with firsts.

That’s the thinking behind “First Experiences,” a project that’s giving people around the world memorable first experiences inspired by the plot of the upcoming movie “The Giver.”

In the upcoming movie, inspired by Lois Lowry's 1993 award-winning young adult novel, Jonas is a boy living in a community void of things like emotions, color, love, music and pain. The story unfolds after he is chosen to receive all of these memories and experiences from The Giver, an experience that will change him and the dystopian community’s future forever.

In anticipation of the film’s release, The Weinstein Company partnered up with SB Projects to create the “First Experience” project and give people the chance at those unforgettable first time experiences that can change the course of a person’s life.

The project’s first stop was in South Central Los Angeles, where David has turned his life around going from a troubled teen to a father trying to make a positive impact through nature. Their first time experience was a family camping trip that David had always hoped to give his children -- but things didn’t end there. Take a look at what happens once actor Brenton Thwaites (who plays Jonas in the film) shows up in the video above.

“The Giver” will also star Jeff Bridges as The Giver and Meryl Streep as the Chief Elder, with smaller roles by Katie Holmes and Taylor Swift. The film opens nationwide on August 15.
