Prague Pride Offers 'Live Avatar' Campaign For Residents In Nations Where LGBT-Friendly Events Are Banned

Prague Pride is honoring lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) residents in countries where pride parades and other celebrations are illegal with an unique media campaign.

Organizers of the event, which kicked off Aug. 11 and runs through Aug. 17, are inviting LGBT people to register for a "live avatar" to represent them at Prague festivities. Through a mobile app, the "avatar" will livestream photos, videos and messages directly to the user.

In press materials, Prague Pride organizers tout the Czech Republic as the most tolerant nation in the former Eastern bloc when it comes to LGBT issues. Still, an estimated 48 percent of the population is reportedly against same-sex marriage and adoption.
