Comedian Dick Cavett had a long and storied friendship with the late Robin Williams. Credited as having given him his big break — on his 1979 PBS late-night program — the "Tonight Show" and "Dick Cavett Show" host admits that he'd could tell his old friend was not well.

"I was stunned, but I have to say, I'm [now] not terribly surprised," Cavett told HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani, of the somber news that Williams had taken his own life.

The 77-year-old said that in the "decades" of knowing him, the "Mrs.Doubtfire" actor was "a sufferer."

"It doesn't totally surprise me that the clouds rolled in so heavily finally on him that he couldn't take it anymore," he said.
