Renewing Our Efforts For Mothers And Children In The Last 500 Days Of The Millennium Development Goals

The Time Is Now To Take Action To Save The Lives Of Millions Of Mothers And Children

Fifteen years ago, a group of world leaders came together at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to commit to a vision of a better future.

With a deadline of December 31, 2015, eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were put in place to accelerate progress on pressing issues in the developing world, including eradicating extreme poverty and combating deadly diseases like HIV/AIDS and malaria.

The health and rights of women and children are among the most crucial pillars for progress in the developing world. And though we've seen massive strides in these arenas, much is left to be done. With just 500 days left till the MDG deadline, only half of mothers in developing regions receive adequate health care. Every minute, 21 children under the age of 5 still die from preventable causes.

On August 18, the UN Foundation is convening to renew the world's efforts towards these goals, and Global Moms Challenge is hosting a discussion about the goals related to women and children's health in an effort to save the lives of millions of mothers and children.

At 1:30 PM ET, join Global Moms Challenge and representatives from MAMA, Johnson & Johnson, mothers2mothers, and others in their conversation about sustaining #MDGMomentum for mothers and children in the 'Real Solutions That Are Saving Mothers Lives' Google+ hangout panel (livestream above). Johnson & Johnson will open up the discussion on Twitter @JNJGlobalHealth.
