Michael Sam Set To Sign With Dallas Cowboys' Practice Squad, Pending Physical: REPORTS

REPORTS: Michael Sam Set To Sign With Dallas Cowboys Practice Squad

Michael Sam might not be without an NFL team for long. The Dallas Cowboys plan to bring in Sam, the first openly gay player ever to be drafted into the NFL, for a physical on Wednesday with the intention of signing him to their practice squad, according to multiple reports.

Sam, who came out as gay back in February 2014 in interviews with The New York Times and ESPN, was selected by the St. Louis Rams with the 249th pick in the seventh round of the 2014 draft.

But after a preseason in which Sam recorded 11 tackles and three sacks, the first-team All-American defensive lineman from the University of Missouri and 2013 SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year did not make the Rams' final 53-man roster last week. He also failed to make the Rams' 10-man practice squad. After going unclaimed on waivers by the 31 other teams, Sam became a free agent.
