A 'Maze Runner' Sequel Is Already In The Works

20th Century Fox is going full steam ahead with the "Maze Runner" series. The film version of James Dashner's 2009 novel comes out later this month, but the studio is already in pre-production on the sequel, "The Scorch Trials," BuzzFeed reports.

Dylan O'Brien ("Teen Wolf") will reprise his role as Thomas, and director Wes Ball told BuzzFeed that a script is being written. Ball said in previous reports that he and his crew were in New Mexico, "about nine weeks out from shooting." Fox acquired the rights to "The Scorch Trials" in 2013, with T.S. Nowlin behind the screenplay. Ball announced at this year's Comic-Con that shooting would begin in fall 2014. (He also debuted concept art, which can be seen at SlashFilm.)

"The Scorch Trials" follows the immediate aftermath of the events that take place in the Glade, a dystopian world where a group of boys lose their memories and are placed inside a maze they must work to solve. "The Maze Runner" co-stars Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Will Poulter, Jacob Latimore, Kaya Scodelario and Patricia Clarkson. The series spawned a third book, "The Death Cure," and a prequel, "The Kill Order."
