Steve Harvey On The Major Difference Between Your Career And Your Calling (VIDEO)

Steve Harvey On The First Step To Finding Your Calling

Comedian Steve Harvey was once a college dropout who drifted from one dead-end job to the next. Today, at age 57, he's an award-winning talk show host with a popular radio show and best-selling books.

How did he find his life's purpose? On an upcoming "Oprah's Lifeclass," Harvey breaks down the most important lessons from his new book, Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success: Discovering Your Gift and the Way to Life's Riches.

The first step to reaching your full potential, Harvey says, is to understand the difference between your talent and your gift.

"You can be a good accountant," he says in the above video. "You can be a good lawyer, that can be your talent. Your gift, however, is something else entirely.

"Your talent will allow you to have a wonderful career," Harvey says. "But this is what I've learned: Your career is what you're paid for. Your calling is what you're made for."

Until you discover what your gift is, Oprah says, your life feels aimless.

"Your calling is tied directly to your gift," Harvey says. "It's the only way."

"Oprah's Lifeclass" with Harvey airs Sunday, Sept. 7 at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.
