Celebrity Grooming Expert Diana Schmidtke Shares Her Beauty Secrets For Men

HuffPost Live's weekly look at the best and worst celebrity style got some extra expertise on Thursday from Diana Schmidtke, a leading grooming expert for famous and foxy men including Ryan Gosling, George Clooney and the Hemsworth brothers.

Some of Schmidtke's celebrity clients make it pretty simple to keep them beautifully coiffed (regarding Gosling, Schmidtke says, "some people just show up perfect"), but she does have a valuable arsenal of tips and tricks to make the rest of us sparkle on any day of the week.

In the video above, Schmidtke shares her best beauty secrets for men, using the attendees of GQ's 2014 Men Of The Year Awards to illustrate her do's and don'ts. Here are a few of our favorites:

• Let your beard help you. "I often call a beard a man's concealer, because that can help shade the face if you're insecure. Maybe you gained a little weight in the holidays; you can put your beard on, and you're not gonna see it," Schmidtke said.

• Don't let one thing -- like bad shoes -- distract from everything else. "What makes a great look for a man from head to toe is not one particular thing. You don't ever want to focus. On a girl, you could say, 'Wow, that's an amazing lip color,' and just focus on the lip, and everything works. But with a guy, it has to be head to toe," she explained.

• Don't use too much hair product -- especially as you age. "Many men suffer from hair loss. The shinier your hair is, the more light you invite to the scalp and the more you will see your thinning hair," Schmidtke cautioned.
