Brian Williams Guest Hosts 'Today' While Savannah Guthrie Is On Maternity Leave

Brian Williams Takes Over 'Today'

Viewers got their daily dose of Brian Williams about 12 hours early on Tuesday when the "Nightly News" host took over the "Today" show anchor chair.

All week, "Today" will be featuring a different guest host to help out Matt Lauer while Savannah Guthrie is on maternity leave. The morning show is calling it "Homecoming Week," and will be bringing back former faces like Tom Brokaw and Maria Shriver.

Among the morning's events, Lauer teased Williams about having to wake up early for the show (as usual), Williams joked about thinking he was coming to see Guthrie, and Carson Daly played a bunch of super embarrassing old Brian Williams videos.

Oh, and there were puppies!

It was 'like riding a bike," the "Today" show said of Williams's appearance. He has co-hosted the 'Today' show before, subbing in for Meredith Vieira in 2009 and hosting alongside Ann Curry in 2011.
