Louie Gohmert's Still Hung Up On Eric Holder's 'Buddy' Dig

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) hasn't forgotten his "buddy" Eric Holder and their spat about oversight within the Justice Department.

The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on that issue Tuesday morning, questioning whether the DOJ's Inspector General wing has enough access to do its job. Gohmert used part of his testimony to suggest that Holder's relationships with past inspectors general were a cause for "concern."

"Nobody is supposed to be an inspector general and be big buddies with the attorney general," Gohmert said. "Although he called me his buddy. I take that as a term of endearment, even though he said, 'You don't want to go there, buddy.'"

Rewind to April 8, 2014, when Gohmert and Holder engaged in a war of words over the release of documents on the Holy Land Foundation and its 2008 provision of funding to Hamas.

From the House Judiciary Committee hearing:

Gohmert: Sir, I’ve read you what your department promised, and it is inadequate, and I realize that contempt is not a big deal to our attorney general, but it is important that we have proper oversight.

Holder: You don’t want to go there, buddy. You don’t want to go there, okay?

GOHMERT: I don’t want to go there?

HOLDER: No.

GOHMERT: About the contempt?

HOLDER: You should not assume that that is not a big deal to me. I think that it was inappropriate. I think it was unjust, but never think that that was not a big deal to me. Don’t ever think that.
