Actress Taraji P. Henson 'Can't Even Fathom' Losing A Child Like Mike Brown's Mother Did

Actress Taraji P. Henson's Heartfelt Message To Mike Brown's Mother

As an African-American mother herself, Taraji P. Henson feels for Lesley McSpadden who lost her son Mike Brown last month in Ferguson, Missouri. But when it comes to relating to her experience, the actress is at a loss for words.

“I can’t even fathom losing a child the way she did,” she told host Marc Lamont Hill this week during an interview on HuffPost Live. “I wouldn’t know what to say...I look at her sometimes and I just weep because she’s numb. I’ve never lost a child. I wouldn’t even know where to begin. I’d probably hug her and cry with her."

Henson, who spoke out about about the killing of the black teen via Twitter, looked back on her own childhood when police officers were a part of the community. She said she feels that police officers play a different role nowadays.

“Now you’ve got a bunch of cops policing people that they’re afraid of, people are afraid of the cops [and] nobody is communicating,” she said. “Nobody’s talking, so everybody’s running around scared of each other. And that’s why you’ve got this Mike Brown [situation]... When are we going to stop, sit down and talk?”
