OKCupid Founder Christian Rudder On What Makes A Good Profile Pic

This Could Make Or Break Your Online Dating Profile

Earnest pictures might be more effective than ironic ones when it comes to online dating profiles, according to OkCupid founder Christian Rudder.

In a HuffPost Live interview on Friday, Rudder critiqued the profile picture of a former OkCupid user and explained why the man may not have had much luck on the site. While the user was going for funny, all you can see is the lower half of his face and a piece of cake -- and that alone could have pushed away potential matches.

"You don't see his face [and the photo's] not necessarily funny," he told host Ricky Camilleri, "Not to judge the aesthetic choices that this man is making -- I think a funny photo could be great -- but they're not going to agree to meet you for a beer or whatever if they can't see what your face looks like."

Rudder said that feedback from others, generally based on a user's picture, determines the matches he or she sees.
