Rihanna Slams CBS For Yanking 'Thursday Night Football' Intro (UPDATE)

CBS Responds To Rihanna Backlash

UPDATE: In a statement made to HuffPost Entertainment, CBS said they will not use Rihanna's song for "Thursday Night Football." "Beginning this Thursday, we will be moving in a different direction with some elements of our Thursday Night Football open," CBS Sports said. "We will be using our newly created Thursday Night Football theme music to open our game broadcast."

EARLIER: Last week, CBS pulled Rihanna's intro for "Thursday Night Football" amid Ray Rice's domestic abuse controversy. The original intro showed Rihanna singing Jay Z's "Run This Town," and featured Kanye West.

But in a tweet sent early Tuesday morning, Rihanna slammed the network, suggesting she did not want them to play the clip this week after axing it from the prior broadcast.

We thought journalistically and from a tone standpoint, we needed to have the appropriate tone and coverage,” CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus told SI.com at the time of the decision. “A lot of the production elements we wanted in the show are being eliminated because of time or tone.”

CBS had also nixed a comedy element. Instead, the hour-long pre-game show dedicated 25 minutes to Ray Rice's release and suspension after TMZ released a video of Rice hitting his now-wife, Janay Rice.
