David Muir Has Wanted To Be 'World News' Anchor For A Really, Really Long Time

David Muir Reveals Childhood Obsession With News

When David Muir says that he landed his dream job, he's not kidding.

The new lead anchor of ABC's "World News" told Jimmy Kimmel Tuesday night that he has been eyeing the job since he was just 12 years old. He said he used to pass up playing outside with his friends after school to go inside and watch "World News" with former host Peter Jennings.

"Even at that age I thought, 'this guy is the James Bond of evening news,'" Muir said. "So it's an honor for me to actually give that chair a shot."

Muir, who made his debut as "World News" anchor in early September, told Kimmel just how nervous he was on his first night.

"Walking down that hallway-- that's the hallway that Jennings, Gibson and Sawyer walked down minutes before air every night," he said. "And I'll never forget the butterflies."
