Rep. Pete King Calls For 'Full Investigation' Into Response To White House Fence-Jumper

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) called for a "full investigation" into how a man was able to jump the White House fence and make it inside the portico doors leading to the president's quarters on Friday evening.

"I have great respect for the Secret Service, but this is absolutely inexcusable," King said in an appearance on "Fox News Sunday."

Officers have said they initially thought the man was unarmed, but later determined he was carrying a knife. He has been identified as Omar Gonzalez, 42, of Copperas Cove, Texas. The incident occurred shortly after President Barack Obama and his daughters had departed for Camp David.

King said officers should have acted more quickly, as the man could have had a body bomb or vest. He also argued that the activity of Islamic State, the militant group also known as ISIS or ISIL, should add heightened concern.

"There can be a lot of conspiracies against the president," said King. "That somebody could get into the White House without being stopped is absolutely inexcusable."

King said the House Homeland Security Committee would likely hold hearings on the incident.

The Secret Service has said it is doing its own investigation into the incident.
