Hannah Graham Kidnapping Suspect Faced Sex Abuse Allegations In 2002

The man charged with kidnapping missing UVA student Hannah Graham was involved in a sexual assault allegation in 2002.

Lynchburg Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Chuck Felmlee confirmed that Jesse Matthew, the suspect in the 18-year-old's disappearance, was accused of sexually assaulting a victim on campus at Liberty University in Oct. 17, 2002.

Lynchburg police officers say they interviewed both the victim and Matthew and decided there wasn't sufficient evidence to move forward...

Liberty University, a Christian university in Lynchburg, released a statement confirming that Matthew was a student at the school from 2000 to 2002, and played on the football team. He was expelled following the sex assault allegations.

Matthew was captured in Texas earlier this week after a woman alerted police that she saw him camping on a beach in Galveston. He will be extradited to Virginia this weekend and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
