News Crew Carjacked While Covering Prayer Vigil For Shooting Victims

A local news crew covering a prayer vigil for shooting victims was carjacked by a gunman Tuesday night in Indianapolis.

The Fox59 crew were near 37th Street and Emerson Avenue around 8:15 p.m. when they were approached by a male wearing dark clothing and carrying a gun, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Rafael Diaz told local outlet WTHR.

A Fox59 camera man offered the man money. But the Indianapolis Star reports the suspect demanded the crew get out of the station-branded SUV, then drove off with the vehicle full of camera equipment.

It only took 20 minutes for police to find the vehicle, which had been abandoned by the robber just a few blocks away, Diaz told the Star. Camera equipment had been left behind, and only a few personal items, including a purse, were stolen.

Police have since found the purse and recovered the robber's weapon, which WTHR reports was a pellet gun.

Fox59 announced via Twitter that its employees were unharmed.
