These Sushi-Eating Otters Have Their Own Chef. Be Jealous.

Everyone needs a balanced meal -- even these two Asian short-clawed otters.

When staff at the National Sea Life Center in Birmingham, U.K., noticed the 10-year-old sisters, named Mango and Apricot, were not eating enough apples and carrots, they had to get creative.

That's when keeper and former chef Rob Gaster stepped in.

A National Sea Life representative told The Huffington Post Gaster used his cooking talents to get inventive with the otter's food by disguising fruits and veggies in handmade sushi. The otters willingly ate the vitamin-rich food wrapped in raw fish like pangasius (their favorite).

Gaster, who came up with the idea about two months ago, sometimes hand-feeds the otters with chopsticks:

The otters' diet is varied, however, and Gaster only gives them sushi on special occasions to ensure the treat does not lose its novelty.

Otters have been listed as endangered by the the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The Sea Life Center contributes to conservation efforts by working with the The International Otter Survival Fund (IOSF) and educating the public about the dangers otters face, according to its website.
