Why Madonna Badger Doesn't Blame God For The Loss Of Her 3 Children

On Dec. 25, 2011, the unthinkable happened to Madonna Badger, an advertising agency owner and mother of three. A fire tore through her Connecticut home early Christmas morning and took the lives of her young daughters -- 9-year-old Lily and 7-year-old twins Sarah and Grace -- and her parents, Pauline and Lomer. Nearly three years after that devastating loss, Badger sits down with Oprah on "Super Soul Sunday" for a conversation about finding the courage to move forward in the wake of tremendous tragedy.

In the above clip from Sunday's upcoming episode, Badger says she often questioned why God did this to her. She says was able to find comfort in the words of the minister who conducted her family's funeral.

"He said that God is not a puppeteer," Badger says. "And God cried first."

Badger goes on to explain how she has managed to keep her faith. "The God I believe in is not a punishing God and would never, ever hurt children or do anything in any way to make people miserable," she says. "That's not my God. My God is full of love. Period. And being a loving, caring, amazing God in my life that leads me and teaches me and carries me."

Oprah and Madonna Badger's full conversation airs on "Super Soul Sunday" this Sunday, Oct. 26, on OWN at 11 a.m. ET, during which it also streams live on Oprah.com, Facebook.com/owntv and Facebook.com/supersoulsunday.
