Iowa Governor Election Results: Terry Branstad Wins Race Against Jack Hatch

Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (R) defeated Democratic state Sen. Jack Hatch in the race for governor Tuesday.

Branstad, who served from 1983 to 1999 and then returned to the governor's mansion in 2010, is the nation's longest-serving governor. Hatch has served in the Iowa legislature as both a state representative and state senator since 1984.

A parade of potential 2016 Republican presidential candidates, including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, had campaigned for Branstad.
