Robin Kelly Defeats Eric Wallace In Illinois House Race

Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.) was re-elected to serve as the representative for Illinois' 2nd congressional district on Tuesday.

Kelly defeated Republican Eric Wallace. She ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

Kelly won a special election for the seat last year after Jesse Jackson, Jr. resigned amid a federal investigation into his campaign finances. Jackson eventually pled guilty to charges that he used campaign funds for personal purchases.

Kelly's positions on gun control have also earned her the support of former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, whose anti-gun violence group funded an ad for her. The ad featured Nate Pendleton, the father of Hadiya Pendleton, the innocent Chicago teen who was shot and killed weeks after she performed at President Barack Obama's inauguration last year.
