Ron Paul Is Done Caring About His Political Future -- Which Could Spell Bad News For Rand

Former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) has never been afraid to hold views that aren't widely shared by his party. Tonight, as the GOP took control of the Senate, the elder Paul threw caution to the wind and shared his frustration with his fellow Republicans, in spite of the presumed presidential aspirations of his son, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.):

Paul, who advocates a much smaller federal government with less control over sectors ranging from the economy to international security, spoke about what he thinks the GOP will and won't do once it's in control:

Pundits have noted that the elder Paul's extreme positions will likely create difficulties if his son runs for president. Though Rand Paul is unafraid to break with his party's traditional stances on issues like the war on drugs, he will still need to rally millions of more conservative Republican voters if he wants to make it to the Oval Office.

Just last month, the father and son found themselves on opposite sides of a political debate: Rand Paul chose to back his party's calls for a ban on travel from Ebola-affected countries, terming it "only reasonable." Ron Paul made his thoughts on such a policy clear to Newsmax TV, saying he viewed it as "politically motivated more than something done for medical purposes."
