Vance McAllister, Kissing Congressman, Loses Midterm Election In Louisiana

Rep. Vance McAllister (R-La.), known as the "kissing congressman" after he was caught on video in an intimate moment with one of his married staffers in April 2014, lost his re-election bid on Tuesday.

With 99 percent of precincts reporting, McAllister trailed the rest of the field.

McAllister's re-election bid was rocked by his affair, which led the staffer he was kissing, Melissa Anne Hixon Peacock, to resign. His campaign received few donations, and he's had to own up to what he called the "personal mistake" in debates.

In late April, McAllister said he would not run for re-election after the cheating scandal. In June, he reversed that decision, saying "the people should decide whether or not I continue to represent them.”

Though McAllister will not be returning to Congress, his replacement won't be determined until Dec. 6, as none of his opponents managed to get the more than 50 percent of the vote required to avoid a runoff.
