Dannel Malloy Election Results: Tom Foley Concedes Race To Incumbent Governor

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy (D) defeated Republican businessman Tom Foley in one of the nation's most closely watched gubernatorial contests.

Foley conceded the race on Wednesday.

The race was a re-match between the two candidates, as Malloy beat Foley by just 6,200 votes in 2010. Malloy served as the mayor of Stamford, Connecticut before he became governor.

Perhaps the defining moment of his four-year term was the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting in December of 2012. Malloy signed a package of gun control measures after the shooting, earning him the wrath of gun rights groups.
