Michelle Williams: Whitney Houston Told Destiny's Child To 'Stay Together'

Whitney Houston Told Destiny's Child To 'Stay Together'

Once upon a time, Beyoncè was just one-third of the female pop trio Destiny's Child. She, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams made sweet music like "Bugaboo," "Independent Women," "Survivor," and of course, "Say My Name."

Whitney Houston was quite the fan of that song -- and the group in general -- which Michelle Williams revealed in a HuffPost Live interview Wednesday. She remembered running into the late songstress at a hotel in Los Angeles years ago and getting to hear her hum the pop hit.

"Myself, Beyoncè and Kelly, we were walking into our hotel. Bobby Brown was in the hotel lobby, and he said, 'My wife loves you girls!' [Whitney] comes [in] and starts singing 'Say My Name,'" Williams described.

But it wasn't just Houston's vocals that Williams remembers from this chance encounter.

"She said, 'Y'all stay together. Stick together. Love each other.' She was very encouraging," the "Fix My Choir" host recounted.

Starstruck, Williams fought to hold it together but admitted to ultimately running up to her hotel room to express her excitement.

"I got the pillow, put it up to my face, and just went into convulsion and screams of joy," she recalled. "To see her -- oh my God -- and for her to be killin' 'Say My Name' -- she kills it!"
