Martin Scorsese Did Not Direct The Trailer For 'The Gambler'

Two weeks after releasing an eff-you filled teaser for "The Gambler," Paramount has debuted the film's first full trailer. It's a really great piece of marketing, but note the music cue: The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter," a familiar song to anyone who has ever seen a movie directed by Martin Scorsese. The significance of the track is doubled for "The Gambler," however, because while Scorsese didn't direct this one -- that job went to Rupert Wyatt -- he was once attached to the project. There's more, too: Leonardo DiCaprio was set to star in that version of "The Gambler," but he was replaced by Mark Wahlberg. Both actors starred in "The Departed," which Scorsese directed and William Monahan wrote. And guess what? Monahan wrote "The Gambler." The Aristocrats! ("The Gambler" is out on Dec. 19; head to Grantland.com for a full interview with Wyatt.)
