Hockey Player Suffers Devastating Hit During Game

Toronto Maple Leafs center Daniel Winnik was knocked down after taking a hit by Colorado Avalanche defenseman Jan Hejda during the first period of a game at the Pepsi Center in Denver on Thursday night.

Winnik appeared to be unconscious as a team medic scrambled out onto the ice.

After a few tense moments that silenced the arena crowd, Winnik was taken off the ice on a stretcher. Afterward, the team tweeted that he was alert and moving.

TSN Reporter Mark Masters tweeted that it was unlikely Winnik would be taken to a hospital.
