Jon Stewart Says 'SNL' Gets 'An Unfair Amount Of Criticism'

In the age of the overnight recap, critics can be cruel to "Saturday Night Live." Each week's show is picked apart and evaluated on a sketch-by-sketch basis, and commentators find delight in declaring which seasons rank among the show's best and which were a waste of time.

That doesn't sit well with Jon Stewart. During a conversation with HuffPost Live's Roy Sekoff about his film "Rosewater," Stewart spoke out against the way people judge "SNL."

"I think that's unfair as well. In reality, that's like a Broadway show, an off-Broadway show, that they're producing weekly," he said.

But it's not just about what it takes to stage the show, Stewart added.

"I still think, as far as creating a cultural moment, there's no vehicle like 'Saturday Night Live,' even today, and never has been," he said. "I do think they take an unfair amount of criticism that it's 'uneven.' We're all uneven."
