Anderson Cooper will return to host "AC360" Tuesday night following an emergency appendectomy, a CNN spokesperson confirmed to The Huffington Post via email.

Cooper began experiencing stomach pains last Tuesday while reporting on the protests and civil unrest in Ferguson, Missouri. The pains worsened over the Thanksgiving week while the anchor was visiting a sick relative in France, and culminated in a trip to the emergency room Sunday.

"He went from the airport to the doctor’s office and after a quick exam, his doctor told Anderson that he needed to go to the ER right away," a CNN spokesperson told The Huffington Post. "He had surgery Sunday night, and spent the night at New York hospital and was sent home on Monday. He will be back anchoring 'AC360' tonight."

Cooper expressed his gratitude for the medical attention he received in a statement.

“I am very thankful for the efforts of my doctor and the doctors and nurses at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center,” he said.
