Between arranging furniture, choosing the right paint colors, and making sure you position your lighting just right, decorating is never quite as easy as it seems. There are, after all, people earning degrees in this stuff.
Luckily, though, there's YouTube. And with it, access to professionals like designer Ilse Crawford who recently sat down with Savannah College of Art and Design president, Paula Wallace, and dropped this gem:
"One idea done well is better than too many done badly," she says when asked about the biggest mistakes people make when it comes to design. "It's often because we try to put too much into things rather than focusing on one clear idea." Her advice for avoiding the over-decorating trap? "When in doubt, lose a third."
