Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award Winners Announced

Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism announced the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award winners for 2015 on Wednesday.

The duPont Awards, regarded as the broadcasting equivalent of the Pulitzer Prizes, will honor fourteen winners, seven of which recognize investigative journalism across network and local TV, radio and online platforms.

CNN's chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta will receive an award for his work on "WEED," which took a deeper look at the use and effectiveness of medical marijuana.

Netflix will also take home an award for the feature-length documentary, "Virunga," the first-ever duPont award for the online streaming service. NPR is being honored with two awards, one for its public radio report “Guilty and Charged” and another in the interactive digital category for “Planet Money Makes a T-Shirt."

NBC News' senior legal and investigative correspondent Cynthia McFadden and NPR’s Michel Martin will host the award ceremony on Jan. 20, 2015.
