Stephen Collins Explains Sexual Abuse Of Underage Girls: 'I'm A Flawed Person'

On Wednesday, Stephen Collins released a lengthy statement to People magazine in which he again confessed to past sexual abuse of children.

In an interview with Katie Couric, airing Friday, the former "7th Heaven" star offered something of an explanation for his actions: "I think I'm a human being with flaws and I've done everything I can to address them."

Collins, who played a minister for 11 seasons on The WB show, credited his own faith with helping him to "put that stuff behind [him]."

"Christ says in so many ways, 'Bring me that which about you is broken. Bring it.' And, most people are broken in some way," he said.

After tapes of Collins confessing to the sexual abuse leaked in October, the actor's agency severed ties, he was fired from the upcoming film "Ted 2," multiple networks pulled "7th Heaven" and he resigned from the National Board of the Screen Actors Guild.

"Most people get to, or have to or choose to hide it. This came out. I didn’t choose this to come out. I didn’t want to have to deal with these things publicly" he said.

In his statement to People, Collins wrote that he exposed himself to three young girls and forced one of those victims to touch him "inappropriately."
