14 Hair & Makeup Looks We'll NEVER Forget From 2014

We can all agree that when it comes to the best and worst beauty looks of 2014, celebrities definitely took more risks.

Whether it was the necessary shedding of layers (ahem, Kim Kardashian's "natural" hair and makeup) or experimenting with wacky hair colors (yeah, we're looking at you Jena Malone and Zosia Mamet), there weren't any dull moments on our beauty list.

As we place bets on the haircut or lipstick color that will define 2015, let's take a moment to reflect on the beauty looks from this year that made a lasting impression.

Leave it up to Smalls to show us how to take this vampy lip color trend from the runway to real life. Plus, her fishtail braid is perfectly plaited.
Diane Kruger at FX’s "The Bridge" Los Angeles Premiere
Kruger's metallic-gray eye makeup and soft pink lipstick is inspiring, but it's her braid-within-a-braid that we really want to copy.
Nina Dobrev at the Teen Choice Awards

The 25-year-old looks super sweet with her chestnut strands styled in this thick rope braid. Her lighter hair ends play off the colors in her crop top outfit, and smokey eye makeup gives Dobrev's look some edge.

If you can direct your attention away from Kardashian's cleavage, you will notice that she is wearing seriously sexy, beachy waves. Her side-swept bangs accentuate that smokey eye makeup and flawless nude lip.

The 31-year-old's glossy red pout couldn't be any more perfect with her strapless Boss dress. Simple face makeup and hair allows her vibrant lip color to stand out.
Lupita Nyong'o at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards

The Academy Award-winning actress' chocolate complexion is simply glowing thanks to the combination of gold and dark brown eyeshadows, that cranberry lip color and her perfectly coiffed jet black 'fro.
Rihanna at the Inaugural Diamond Ball

This bad girl went glamorous with a shiny low ponytail, classic cat-eye liner and ruby red lipstick that matches her stunning Chopard diamond and rubellite necklace.

We're not exactly sure what look the "24" actress was trying to achieve with this big-and-teased hairdo that's giving us bad '80s flashbacks.
Pixie Lott at Attitude Magazine's Hot 100 Party

Lott's cornstarch yellow curls (and crisp denim outfit) brings back memories of Jessica Simpson during her Daisy Duke days. The hair color is too harsh for her skin tone and makes the English singer look like she's wearing a wig.
Zendaya Coleman at the Teen Choice Awards

The rising star is too talented (and too beautiful) for such an unflattering hairstyle. This jet black wig has a wavy texture that appears sloppy, and the length of the cut doesn't complement her face shape.
Tallia Storm at the Scottish Fashion Awards

Afros are beautiful, but the key to rocking the style is making sure that your strands are moisturized. This frizzy 'fro is in need of some intense hydration.
Dascha Polanco at Variety's 2014 Power Of Women Event

We were in love with the "Orange Is the New Black" actress' new 'do when she first debuted it at New York Fashion Week. But this style makes it very clear that she's wearing a wig.
Jena Malone at AFI Fest

Ronald McDonald comparisons aside, Malone looks happy and that's the best makeup anyone could wear. We just wished the young star would've chosen a richer hair color to complement her fair skin and not clash with her lipstick.
Zosia Mamet at "A Most Violent Year" NYC Premiere

Mamet's new gray hair is actually one of the best looks we've seen on the "Girls" actress all year. But her gray eyebrows and nude lip gloss ages her well beyond her years.
