Empire State Building Lit In Blue For Fallen NYPD Officers

The Empire State Building was lit in blue with a rotating red siren on Saturday night, in honor of the two NYPD officers that were murdered on Dec. 20.

The top tiers were basked in blue light, and the building's spire was cast in rotating red and white, imitating a police siren.

Last Saturday, New York Police Officers Rafeal Ramos and Wenjian Liu were shot dead by gunman Ismaaiyl Brinsley, while sitting in their patrol in Brooklyn. Brinsley fled into a nearby subway station, where he killed himself. The murder of Ramos and Liu shocked the entire nation, prompting an outpouring of support for police officers, at a time when the nation is also protesting acts of violence used by police.

In a funeral attended by tens of thousands held on Saturday, Officer Ramos was mourned by police officers from around the country, political figures, social activists, and citizens.
