Police Officer, Girlfriend Beaten And Robbed In Hit-And-Run

Authorities in Texas are searching for a group of suspects who they say attacked and robbed an off-duty police officer and his girlfriend on their way home from a Christmas party.

The Galena Park police officer and his girlfriend were driving in his personal vehicle when a black Infiniti cut in front of them, causing the officer to get in an accident, KHOU reports.

When the officer went to confront the driver of the Infiniti, a red Humvee pulled up nearby. Authorities say that four Hispanic males jumped out of the Humvee and attacked the officer and his girlfriend.

Police say the men took the officer's cell phone and wallet. The officer's gun also fell to the ground and fired, but nobody was hit.

Police say the attackers then stole the officers weapon and left in an SUV. Other officers spotted the vehicle a short time later in the 12,000 block of the East Freeway. The suspects then ditched the SUV and ran into the woods.

The officer and his girlfriend were recovering in an area hospital. Police were still searching for the suspects.
