What NOT To Say To Your Wife If She's Trying To Slim Down

Every husband knows (or should know) the best answer when his wife asks, "Does my butt look big in this?" But what's your husband supposed to do when you complain about wanting to lose weight? George tells his wife Nicole "Quit being a baby!" or "Suck it up and do it!" His strategy isn't working so well for her weight loss — or for their marriage — so they turn to Dr. Phil for help.

In the video above, George explains, "When we got married, Nicole was really fit. She was really hot, hot, hot. I want her to be that hot parent!" He's a fitness enthusiast, so he's tried to help coach his wife with workouts. “Helping Nicole try to lose weight is really tough," he says. "Nicole is her own biggest obstacle. Nicole is lazy ... My biggest thing is don't be a big baby. I tell her, 'Quit crying. Let’s just get it done.'”

Nicole ends up feeling deflated. “He’s rough, and he’s strict. I always tell him, ‘I’m not one of your workout friends. I can’t bench press 150,’” she says. "I feel like a failure as a wife and a mother ... When I look in the mirror, I don’t really like what I see anymore. I feel like I’ve become somebody who is not even me. I just don’t know what to do.”

George denies that he's demeaning his wife, but Dr. Phil sets him straight. "Did you drop a barbell on your head or something?" he asks. Watch as Dr. Phil explains how George can help support his wife.
