Attention all men who make up crappy excuses to avoid wearing condoms: Swedish singer Zara Larsson has some words for you -- and one pointed Instagram photo.
On Jan. 5, the 17-year-old singer posted a picture on Instagram of her leg encased in a condom, nearly up to the knee. The caption reads: "To all the guys saying 'my dick is too big for condoms' TAKE A SEAT"
While Larsson's post is certainly funny -- it's safe to assume that no man believes his penis is larger than a leg -- she brings up an important point. The decision whether or not to use a condom needs to be a discussion between a man and his sexual partner. And that conversation shouldn't require the use of begging, cajoling or making excuses as to why the use of contraception simply isn't possible. The right to avoid pregnancy and/or the contraction of an STI trumps a dude's preference for what "feels good."
Larsson published a post on her personal blog on Jan. 6, responding to the celebratory reaction her Instagram photograph has received:
I did it as a fun thing only. Then I see how newspapers write about what feminist genius I am!... What becomes problematic here is that I'm really not a feminist genius... I, personally, do not consider myself to be some kind of Holy Mary of feminism... I am fully aware that there are many, many girls who are better than me at this...and who receive little attention.
...
Summary: There are an incredible number of young girls who would deserve attention for their feminist ideas and texts instead of moi.
So, you tell 'em, Larsson. ("Feminist genius" or not.)
