Jack Black's Childhood Was More Animated Than Yours

Jack Black's Childhood Was More Animated Than Yours

How '70s was Jack Black's childhood? Well, he once called Farrah Fawcett's fan line after writing the tooth fairy about her. And he adored Journey and Styx.

Those are some of the many nuggets in a quirky animated short about Black's youth. The clip is part of the "California Inspires Me" series by California Sunday Magazine and Google Play. In it, the comic actor and musician describes growing up in a laid-back Southern California beach town and how its proximity to Hollywood made him believe he could conquer show business. Not quite fitting into surf culture, he felt the need to entertain.

"It's a compulsion, and I had it early on," he said.

Lots of fans are sure glad he acted on it.
