Singer Mary Lambert On Using Her Music To Talk About Mental Illness

This Singer Wants To Use Her Music To De-Stigmatize Mental Illness

Singer Mary Lambert doesn't shy away from tough topics when it comes to her music. She's used her voice to advocate for gay rights and now, in her single "Secrets," the artist opens up about dealing with bipolar disorder.

Lambert sat down with HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani this week to discuss her hit song and how she hopes to use her music as a platform for discussing mental health issues -- including her own.

"I think it's really important to de-stigmatize mental illness in any form," she said. "I think there's a lot of people that are carrying around guilt and shame and baggage for sh*t that doesn't matter. Everybody is going through something, everybody has had something that they've had to overcome."
