Based on the wonderful world of Instagram, we've come to the conclusion that Hawaii's residents are kind of insane. (In a good way, of course.) Whether they're diving off cliffs, swimming alongside great whites, or scaling lush green mountains, Hawaii folks know how to live life on the edge -- often literally.

Hawaii locals are well aware that the best way to see the islands is on foot, up close and personal. Sure, helicopter tours are pretty darn cool, but nothing helps you to understand and appreciate the land like the challenging reward of a hike.

So go ahead and break out those heavy-duty hiking boots -- we're taking a stroll through the lesser-seen parts of the aloha state.
