'House Of Cards' Actor Mahershala Ali Defends Season Three's 'Degree Of Stillness'

Critics have been lambasting the third season of "House Of Cards" since it hit Netflix on February 27th, calling it "House of Zzzzs" and arguing that it's "lost its magic."

Mahershala Ali, who plays Remy Danton on the hit series, deflected those sentiments in a HuffPost Live conversation Tuesday, asserting that there's a reason behind the different pacing of season three.

"The first two seasons are about him [Frank Underwood] attaining the goal, getting to where he wants to get to, so it makes sense to me, if you kind of pull out and think about it, that there's a certain degree of stillness in season three because he's arrived," he told host Alyona Minkovski.

Underwood, who became President in the finale of season two, is "exactly where he wants to be," according to Ali, and "so now the show is about him having to process and juggle traverse the territory and pressure of being the most powerful man in the world.

"Therefore, the show is a little bit more intimate and more focused on their relationship and their journey," he continued, "the things they kind of do, as opposed to it being as action-driven in certain aspects as it was in the first two seasons."
