Pronouns are important.

While language may seem insignificant, the act of misgendering can affect an individual on a personal level far more than you might realize. While we live in a world that tries to understand human experience through binary terms, the male/female binary does not fit the vast spectrum of identities contained within the queer community.

With an acknowledgment that not all bodies identify as male or female, this video tries to further explain why transgender pronouns -- such as "they" -- are necessary.

"Pronouns are important because they indicate a degree of respect," transgender activist Kate Bornstein explains in the above video. "Who doesn't want to be respected?"
