Dale Hansen Rips The Cowboys For Signing Greg Hardy In Speech Against Domestic Abuse

Texas sports anchor Dale Hansen keeps the impassioned speeches coming.

He's now taken the Dallas Cowboys to task for signing former Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy, who was embroiled in a domestic abuse case that is still under review by the NFL.

Hansen, of ABC's Dallas affiliate WFAA, recently delivered a rousing commentary against racism after students held up signs that read "White Power" during a high school basketball game. In another previous segment that went viral, he denounced bigoted reactions to Michael Sam coming out before last year's NFL draft.

This time, Hansen zeroed in on the Cowboys for potentially paying millions to a player who avoided a jury trial for allegedly assaulting and threatening to kill his girlfriend. The girlfriend, who could not be located to testify, was reportedly paid off by Hardy in what the district attorney described as a civil suit agreement, the New York Post reported.

"Now you can beat a woman and play with a star on your helmet," Hansen said after referencing other Cowboys players involved in criminal incidents.

Hardy's case has a complicated history, the Dallas Morning News noted. Last May, he was arrested after his girlfriend dialed 911 to say the player had thrown her into a bathtub, dragged her out by her hair and threatened to kill her. A judge found Hardy guilty of domestic abuse in July, giving him 18 months probation and a suspended 60-day jail sentence. But Hardy appealed for a jury trial so he could keep playing, and charges were dismissed last month when it was evident the ex-girlfriend would not testify.

In his commentary, Hansen snidely invited Cowboys fans to buy their daughters Hardy jerseys because he's a great player. "Your daughter will understand that," he said facetiously.

"But the reality is, if Hardy knocks on your front door to take your daughter out for a night on the town, the man you cheer now, you would shoot his ass through the glass."
