Gina Rodriguez Says Her Mission Is ‘Creating A Different Perception Of Minorities In The Media'

Gina Rodriguez Opens Up About The Driving Force Behind Her Career Moves

Gina Rodriguez is one of television's hottest stars thanks to her award-winning series "Jane The Virgin," and she's committed to being more serious than ever about picking the right roles now that she's got some Hollywood influence.

The Latina actress explained to HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani on Monday that she feels blessed to do any job, from "a free short film, a PSA, to a big blockbuster" -- as long as it lines up with her goal of highlighting the beauty of diversity in entertainment.

"[It's about] creating a different perception of minorities in the media. That was a huge mission and still is for me," Rodriguez said. "So I will choose what's best for my career, my journey and my integrity."

The Golden Globe-winner added that she does feel a responsibility to positively represent women and Latinos in her work, but she accepts it happily.

"I think artists have a responsibility because they are not only given their dreams, not only do they get to do what they love every day, but we get so much. We're so lucky as artists. I mean, we get adored, we get fans following us and wanting to wear our clothes, and all that is great. So because of that love and that support, it is my responsibility," she said.
